Key Components of Our Maths Delivery

  • Numicon & Visual Tools: We use Numicon’s tactile, visual system across early and developing stages to help students see and manipulate numbers, building strong foundational number sense.

  • Structured & Scaffolding Curriculum: A clear, progressive scope ensures students master essential skills in number, algebra, geometry, and measurement before moving on to complex problem-solving.

  • Targeted Learning Models: Teaching blends whole-class explicit instruction with focused small-group sessions, allowing teachers to address specific learning needs, reinforce concepts, and guide peer collaboration.

  • Digital Integration (Maths-Whizz): Digital learning platforms provide personalized online tutoring that adapts to each child’s skill level, offering targeted practice and real-time progress tracking.

  • Extension & Problem-Solving: High-ability mathematicians are challenged through extension opportunities, including the Otago Problem Solving Competition, which sharpens analytical thinking and strategic reasoning. All Year 4-6 are expected to complete Maths Mate maintenance worksheets weekly.

This multi-faceted approach ensures every child at Woodlands Park School, whether building foundational confidence or pursuing advanced problem-solving, receives the support, challenge, and tools needed to succeed.
