From phonemic awareness and systematic synthetic phonics to vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension, our approach ensures all students acquire the foundational tools needed to become confident readers and skilled writers.

• Structured Mathematics: Our math program focuses on building deep conceptual understanding alongside procedural fluency. Through explicit teaching, hands-on representations, and step-by-step progressions, students master key mathematical concepts, build problem-solving confidence, and develop lasting numerical automaticity.

Curriculum Implementation Timeline

At Woodlands Park School, we deliver all areas of the curriculum with excellence. As part of our commitment to continuous improvement and alignment with national guidelines, we are progressively rolling out refreshed curriculum areas:

• 2027 Implementation of the refreshed Social Sciences and Sciences learning areas.

• 2028–2029 Phased implementation of Health and Physical Education, The Arts, Technology, and Learning Languages.

This phased approach ensures our teaching staff has the targeted training, resources, and evidence-aligned practices needed to maintain outstanding educational outcomes across every subject area.

Assessment and Reporting at Woodlands Park School

The primary purpose of reporting is to celebrate growth and share clear, meaningful insight into your child's learning journey and achievement throughout the school year.

How We Measure Learning & Progress

In line with national curriculum reporting requirements, student learning in Reading, Writing, and Maths is monitored and reported using the five official Progress Descriptors:

• Emerging: Starting to engage with year-level learning ideas and contexts, requiring significant support.
• Developing: Starting to understand key concepts and apply learning in familiar situations with support.
• Consolidating: Building consistency and confidence, meeting many year-level expectations as learning becomes more independent.
• Proficient: Consistently applying learning independently and demonstrating full understanding expected for their year level.
• Exceeding: Working beyond current year-level expectations and applying complex knowledge in new and creative ways.

Because children develop at different rates, learning is a continuous journey. We focus on individual progress, celebrating the steps your child takes from where they started to where they are now.

What You Will Receive & When

Term 2 and Term 4 Achievement Reports

Written reports are sent home twice a year. These provide a comprehensive picture of your child’s development across the curriculum:

• Core Focus Areas: Detailed updates on progress and next learning steps in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics using the national progress descriptors.
• Rich Curriculum: Insights into key understandings explored through Science, Social Sciences, The Arts, Te Reo Māori, Technology, Physical Education, and Health.

In alignment with our strategic goals, we report on how your child demonstrates our core school values in their daily interactions and learning environment:
